As September begins, a wave of green is flowing through the streets of Bishkek. The 26th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is being held in this ancient Central Asian capital. During the summit, a fleet of green pure electric buses is running along the city's main thoroughfares, adorned with the SCO Summit logo and inscriptions in Kyrgyz, Chinese, Russian, and English – and they shoulder the vital responsibility of summit transportation support. This green comes from Hefei, China – from Ankai Bus.
Before the Summit: An "Early Arrival" Across 4,000 Kilometers
Long before the summit began, Ankai's green footprint had already taken deep root in this city.
In August 2024, before the vehicles were even shipped, Ankai's overseas service team arrived in Bishkek to survey operational sites and lay the groundwork for supporting infrastructure including charging facilities and maintenance workshops. In June 2025, 120 new-energy buses set off from Hefei, traveling over 4,000 kilometers to reach Bishkek – securing the largest electric bus order in Kyrgyzstan's history to date. In August of the same year, the Bishkek Electric & Gas Bus Service Center was officially inaugurated, with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov visiting the site and taking a test ride. Starting in late September, the buses were gradually put into service on city bus routes, becoming an integral part of the local public transport system.
A product truly takes root only when it can "understand" the city it serves. Bishkek is situated on a plateau, with undulating roads and icy conditions in winter. To meet these challenges, Ankai carried out in-depth localized customization: high-power motors deliver robust climbing performance, confidently handling hilly terrain; a three-door low-floor layout with accessible ramps ensures easy boarding for the elderly, children, and people with disabilities; a full-electric air conditioning and electric heating system provides year-round comfort; and a single charge is sufficient to meet a full day's operational needs.
The safety line is similarly reinforced from the ground up. Ankai's service team made targeted local adjustments to the vehicle control systems, tailored to local road conditions and driving habits, and put the vehicles through rigorous tests, including rollover trials that meet EU standards. At present, Ankai electric buses are operating on eight major bus routes across Bishkek, and the concept of green mobility is quietly transforming the city.
During the Summit: A "Zero-Mistake" Commitment for the Silk Road Gathering
Ankai's connection with the SCO is well-established. In 2018, at the SCO Qingdao Summit, 40 Ankai buses were deployed to support the event, introducing the world to the strength of China's independent brands. Eight years later, as the summit baton passed to Kyrgyzstan, Ankai buses have already taken root in the capital and become part of its daily fabric. From being an invited supporter at a "China-hosted" event to operating daily on the streets of the "host city," this shift reflects the clear upward trajectory of Chinese bus brands over the past eight years.
This confidence on the global stage is forged through countless high-profile national events. From providing transport support for the National Two Sessions for more than two decades, to serving the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Anti-Japanese War; from the Beijing Olympics and Hangzhou Asian Games, to the G20 Hangzhou Summit, the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, the Boao Forum for Asia, and beyond – Ankai buses and service teams have consistently delivered flawless performance, earning a reputation as the gold standard for major-event transport support.
Translating this capability to a foreign setting depends on a service support system that operates seamlessly on a routine basis. After the buses entered service, Ankai's overseas service team maintained a permanent on-site presence, providing driver training, troubleshooting, and software upgrades throughout the technical service period. During the summit, this battle-hardened team was on high alert, increasing inspection frequencies and refining emergency response plans to ensure that every bus was in peak condition to welcome visitors from around the world. In addition to the main fleet of pure electric buses, more than ten Ankai N70 vehicles also joined the support lineup, with Anhui Cummins providing full technical support and working in close coordination with the Ankai service team – delivering their hallmark "zero-mistake" performance for this Silk Road summit.
After the Summit: An Enduring Legacy
As the summit ends and Bishkek returns to its daily rhythm, the Ankai electric buses do not fade away. They continue to run on schedule past shopping malls, street corners, and bus stops, carrying commuters and schoolchildren, blending into the city's flow of traffic, and becoming familiar companions in residents' daily lives. Looking ahead, this "China Green" from Hefei will travel along the Silk Road to even more cities, contributing "Chinese wisdom" and "Chinese solutions" to public transportation around the world.
